The International Broadcast Centre in Holmenkollen will be constructed as a temporary facility, composed of stacked cabins in sloped terrain.
Following a tender process, Ski-VM 2011 has contracted the equipment rental services company Cramo to supply the entire facility comprising the IBC, MPC and common services areas.
Construction starts in early autumn 2010.
Module changes
The contractor assignment entails certain adjustments of the IBC cabin modules and solutions compared to the description in the Broadcasters Rate Card.
Firstly, the length of the standard cabin module has been extended from 6 to 8,4 metres (price per cabin remains unchanged). The cabins have two windows on each side.
Secondly, a standard entrance module has been included such that every broadcaster who orders IBC space will have a dedicated lavatory and a 10,6 sq.m. office. This segment will be added to each cabin (whether single, double or triple) and is free of charge.
Hallways from the centre of the entrance module will lead into combinations of open, double or triple cabins or other configurations with dividing walls as illustrated below.
Overall design
The IBC/MPC facility will consist of three adjoining buildings. One building will hold the common media services area such as information desks, cafeteria and press conference rooms. The second will be designed for press accredited media and the third will accommodate the IBC.
The IBC will consist of two wings of stacked cabins on three storeys. The two wings will be connected by a 3 m wide hallway leading into the common services building. At the other end of the hallway, there will be exits to the RTV compound.
Further progress
Although broadcasters’ deadline to submit the final Order Form is not until 15th September, preliminary indications of their IBC space requirements are urgently needed. This is because the supplier Cramo will start production of the cabin modules already on 25 June, and the on-site mounting will start on 10 August.
Therefore, rights holders are kindly invited to discuss their IBC space requirements and solutions with NRK Host Broadcaster’s Head of IBC, Petter Lunde, email petter.lunde@nrk.no, telephone +47 915 66 691.
After the start of construction 10 August, the further timeline of the IBC project will be as follows:
1 December 2010: Start of permanent cabling for NRK Host Broadcaster and Ski-VM 2011
4 January 2011: IBC/MPC final date of delivery for constructor Cramo
